Multilingual Volunteers Service Launched During Holidays

2025-10-16

October 1, Chongqing — As the National Day and Mid-Autumn Festival holidays kicked off, Yuzhong District launched a multilingual volunteer service initiative to welcome visitors from around the world. At 10:30 a.m., inside the Raffles City Chongqing Tourist Center in Chaotianmen, Deng Yaling, a volunteer from Sichuan International Studies University (SISU), was assisting tourists from South Korea. Holding the English version of the Hand-drawn Cultural Tourism Map of Yuzhong District, she gave vivid and detailed introduction to local attractions and shared stories about the district’s rich cultural heritage.

This initiative follows the strategic cooperation agreement signed on September 25 between the government of Yuzhong District and SISU, aimed at promoting the city’s role as a new hub of inland reform and opening-up. Under this partnership, the two sides jointly established the International Cultural and Tourism Multilingual Service Station, which officially opened the same day. The station provides multilingual travel consultations, cultural exchange support, and emergency interpretation services for international visitors to Chongqing.

“This is a wonderful opportunity to challenge myself, help others, and learn about different cultures,” said Deng Yaling, who joined the program after seeing a volunteer recruitment notice shared by her counselor. Since 2023, she has participated in several international volunteer activities in Chongqing, often serving as an interpreter.

From October 1 to 8, the Yuzhong District Bureau of Culture and Tourism organized a special campaign titled “Beautiful Yuzhong, Warm Encounters—International Volunteers in Action.” More than 150 university volunteers took part, offering multilingual services at four major tourist destinations: the Shibati Traditional Block, the Liziba Monorail Viewpoint, the Hongyadong Folk Culture Area, and the Jiefangbei Central Business District. Volunteers provided translation and guidance, cultural interpretation, visitor assistance, safety reminders, and emergency language support—ensuring that travelers could experience Yuzhong’s holiday spirit with ease and warmth.
