SISU Holds Campus Security and Emergency Response Drill

2026-10-12

An armed intruder attempting to force his way onto campus was the scenario for an emergency response drill held at Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) on September 21. The exercise, organized in cooperation with the Shapingba District Public Security Bureau's Counterterrorism Unit and Tongjiaqiao Police Station, aimed to strengthen the university's ability to respond to violent threats and protect campus safety.

More than 4,000 faculty members and students observed the drill, which involved university security personnel and contracted security guards.

Before the exercise, police officers provided training on responding to violent incidents and demonstrated the proper use of protective equipment, including riot shields, restraining forks and batons. Participants also reviewed emergency procedures and response protocols.

The drill began with a simulated report of an armed individual attempting to enter campus. University security personnel immediately alerted the emergency response team, triggering the activation of the campus security emergency plan.

Following the established protocol of responding within one minute and deploying within three minutes, security personnel quickly formed a defensive line using riot shields and restraining forks to prevent the simulated attacker from reaching crowded areas. Meanwhile, other team members directed students to designated safe areas.

Officers from Tongjiaqiao Police Station and the Counterterrorism Unit subsequently arrived, established security perimeters and worked together to subdue and remove the simulated attacker.

Following the exercise, counterterrorism specialists evaluated the response and provided practical guidance on handling security threats. An equipment demonstration and interactive session also gave students and faculty an opportunity to learn about protective equipment, emergency evacuation and personal safety measures.

The drill tested SISU's emergency response procedures and coordination with local law enforcement while raising awareness of campus security among faculty and students.

SISU plans to conduct regular security and evacuation drills, strengthen cooperation with local authorities and continue improving its campus safety measures.
