2026-10-12

Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) Party Secretary Liu Sifang led a delegation to four universities in Tianjin and Beijing from September 20 to 23, seeking fresh perspectives on interdisciplinary research, educational innovation, and institutional development.

The delegation's first stop was Tiangong University, where Party Secretary Guo Dianhua accompanied the visitors on a tour of a center dedicated to preserving and promoting traditional Chinese culture and craftsmanship internationally, as well as Boya Academy. The visit offered insights into how the university brings traditional culture into education and uses the residential college model to support student development. The two sides also exchanged ideas on foreign language teaching, academic development, research innovation, and digital governance.

At Tianjin Foreign Studies University, the focus turned to the evolving role of language education in international engagement. Accompanied by Party Secretary and President Li Yingying, the delegation toured an exhibition highlighting the university's recent achievements and its Shanghai Cooperation Organization House. They learned about the university's work in multilingual education and international communication, and discussed how digital technologies could transform language teaching, encourage interdisciplinary learning, and open up new opportunities for collaboration.

The visit to Beijing Jiaotong University offered a different perspective on interdisciplinary education and research. After touring the university's history museum and learning about its longstanding strengths in railway and intelligent transportation, the delegation met with President and Deputy Party Secretary Liu Pan. Their discussions explored ways to bring together expertise from different fields, share research resources, and develop joint approaches to student training.

The delegation concluded its trip at Beijing Foreign Studies University, where Party Secretary Li Hai shared the university's experience in faculty development and international communication. The discussion also addressed how foreign language universities can draw on their academic strengths to contribute to China's international engagement.

Liu emphasized that SISU and Beijing Foreign Studies University share a commitment to foreign language education and international communication. He said SISU would build on insights gained from the visit to refine its academic programs, improve teaching, and strengthen faculty development. These efforts, he added, would help the university prepare graduates with strong professional skills, a sense of social responsibility, and a global outlook.

The four-day visit is part of SISU's broader effort to develop into a high-level, application-oriented research university with distinctive academic strengths. Drawing on the experiences of the four institutions, SISU plans to identify practical ways to advance its own educational reforms, strengthen research, and support its long-term development.
