A delegation from Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met), led by Ian Jone, director of international affairs, visited Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) on October 9 to discuss preparations for their joint institute and further educational cooperation.

SISU Deputy Party Secretary Gou Chaoli met with the delegation and reviewed the development of the Manchester Metropolitan Joint Institute, which received approval in May 2026. She outlined progress in staffing, facilities, tuition approval, student recruitment and the CPEAR review process. She also expressed confidence that the two universities would work together to develop a high-quality institute with distinctive strengths.

Both sides exchanged views on the next steps in establishing the institute and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation.
