2025 “Understanding Contemporary China” Summer Camp Opens at SISU

On the morning of May 16, the 2025 Chinese Government Scholarship “Understanding Contemporary China” Summer Camp, hosted by the College of Chinese Language and Culture, SISU, officially opened at the Traditional Culture Experience and Research Center on SISU’s East Campus.

 

Twenty-five students and faculty members from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, Mahasarakham Rajabhat University, and Kalasin University in Thailand have embarked on a 17-day journey of Chinese language learning and cultural exchange.

 

Xue Hong, Party Secretary of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, delivered a welcome address. On behalf of SISU, she extended a warm welcome to all participants and expressed sincere gratitude to the partner universities for their continued support. She gave a brief overview of SISU and the academic strengths of the College of Chinese Language and Culture, particularly in the field of international student education. Xue noted that the Summer camp will engage students in immersive learning activities including language classes, city exploration, and digital technology projects. She encouraged the participants to make full use of this opportunity, deepen their understanding of contemporary China, and contribute to the lasting friendship and mutual understanding between China and Thailand.

 

Su Guizhi, a professor from Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, expressed heartfelt thanks to SISU for the warm reception and the inspiring courses. She urged the students to participate in all activities to gain a deeper appreciation of the contemporary Chinese urban life and its traditional fine culture.

 

Li Yuhai, a student from Mahasarakham Rajabhat University, Thailand, spoke on behalf of all the participants. He thanked SISU for offering Thai university students a unique chance to engage with Chinese society firsthand. He remarked that Thai students have long been fascinated with China’s ancient cultural heritage and its rapidly developing modern life.

 

The opening ceremony also featured cultural performances by SISU students, including traditional Chinese musical instrument performances, such as a guzheng piece of Butterfly Lovers, a hulusi solo of Phoenix Bamboo Under the Moonlight, and a classical dance of A Dream of the Past. Their outstanding performances were met with enthusiastic applause from the audience.
