International student volunteers from Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) recently participated in an international volunteer service event themed on “Beautiful Chongqing, Global Stories”.

Held at the Shibati Intangible Cultural Heritage Tourism District in the downtown of Chongqing, the event was co-hosted by the Chongqing International Volunteer Service Research Center, the Yuzhong District Culture and Tourism Committee, and the Yuzhong District Foreign Affairs Office.

Designed to promote cultural exchange and highlight Chongqing’s efforts in heritage preservation, the event invited SISU students from Russia, Equatorial Guinea, Ecuador, and Thailand to explore traditional Chinese folk arts alongside local residents. Under the guidance of master artisans, students gained firsthand experience with traditional craftsmanship. Anton, a student from Russia, recreated stone inscriptions using ancient printing techniques. Fellow Russian student Yuliya practiced paper cutting and crafted silhouettes of Chongqing landmarks. Qinyue from Equatorial Guinea blended African weaving styles into Chinese knotwork. Edison from Ecuador experimented with Shu embroidery stitching, while Wanchana from Thailand created fragrant fabric sachets.

At the event, the five SISU participants were formally inducted into the Yuzhong District International Volunteer Service Team. In the coming months, they will assist with multilingual tour guiding, cultural interpretation, and heritage education at sites such as Jiefangbei and Shibati.

This initiative reflects SISU’s commitment to global engagement and community-based learning.
