Golden Loquats from Guangyang: A Taste of Early Summer

2025-05-08

As early summer arrives in Chongqing, the hills of Huilongqiao Village in Guangyang Town are filled with the fragrance of ripening loquats. Covering over 3,000 mu, the Guangyang Jiangnan Loquat Orchard has entered its peak harvest season. The renowned Da Wuxing loquat, known for its rich sweetness and bright golden hue, is now available for both in-person picking and nationwide delivery.

Across the orchard, loquats hang densely on the branches, their warm color contrasting beautifully with the lush green leaves. The fruit is carefully hand-picked by local farmers—each loquat gently twisted from the stem to preserve its freshness and integrity. Skilled workers sort and pack the harvest with remarkable efficiency, selecting only the most uniform, full-bodied fruit for gift boxes. The rest is sold fresh at the orchard or used for local markets.

Packaging areas are bustling with activity. Loquats are layered into boxes with moisture-absorbing liners to ensure they arrive in perfect condition. Each box is sealed with care and shipped out the same day, bound for customers in cities such as Hangzhou, Ningbo, Shanghai, Beijing, and Shenzhen. Many buyers, including wholesalers and regular customers, have placed advance deposits to secure their orders.

Guangyang loquats have built a strong reputation for their exceptional flavor—thick flesh, high juice content, and an aroma that lingers. They have become a seasonal favorite among food lovers across China. This year’s harvest has shown a steady increase in both quality and yield compared to last year.

Visitors are welcome to come and experience loquat picking in person, with orchard-pick prices around ¥60 per kilogram. For those unable to visit, direct purchases range from ¥16 to ¥40 per kilogram, depending on grade, and orders can be placed for delivery via SF Express and China Post. The orchard also offers on-site packing and shipping services, allowing customers to send loquats as gifts to family and friends.

“This year, we’ve continued to strengthen our logistics partnerships to ensure quick delivery and fresh arrival,” said Liu Yu, Party Secretary of Huilongqiao Village. “Many of our growers have already begun fulfilling orders from across the country.”

Whether you’re planning a countryside weekend outing or looking to share a unique seasonal gift, Guangyang loquats offer an unforgettable taste of early summer—sweet, golden, and freshly picked at the peak of flavor.
