The 6th Annual Conference of the China Alliance for Foreign Language Disciplines was held at Beijing Normal University from December 13 to 15, 2024. Themed “Actively Promoting Disciplinary Innovation and Accelerating the Development of a High-Quality Education System,” the conference brought together nearly 100 foreign language experts from prestigious universities across the country to discuss new developments in foreign language education. President Dong Hongchuan of Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) attended the event and delivered a keynote speech.

In his address, titled “Upholding Integrity and Innovation, Empowering with Technology, Fostering Interdisciplinary Integration, and Combining Knowledge with Practice: Building a New Strategic Ecosystem for Foreign Language Disciplines,” President Dong shared SISU’s experiences in advancing the “New Humanities” initiative. He emphasized that the development of the “New Humanities” is a vital part of China’s efforts to modernize higher education and highlighted SISU’s progress under the “High-Level New Humanities Construction” project.

Through this initiative, SISU has actively explored new approaches to reform liberal arts education at foreign language universities, delivering high-quality results and completing key construction tasks. President Dong noted that SISU will continue to enhance its strategies for building a sustainable development framework for the “New Humanities” while strengthening talent cultivation, institutional support, and distinct academic features. These efforts aim to accelerate educational innovation and foster high-quality development, preparing more internationally competent and versatile talents to meet national needs.

Founded in 2018, the China Alliance for Foreign Language Disciplines supports national strategies such as “Cultural Outreach,” “High-Quality Education Development,” “Building a Strong Education System,” and the “Double First-Class Initiative.” The alliance serves as a platform for academic exchanges and promotes collaboration in training high-quality foreign language professionals. Its annual conference is recognized as one of the most important events in the field of foreign language education in China.
