SISU Scholars Attend the 16th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference

Professor Wang Renqiang, Professor Wu Shuqiong from the Center for Foreign Language Studies, Dr. Deng Yu from the School of Language Intelligence, and doctoral candidate Yu Jiangling from the School of English Studies, participated in the 16th International Cognitive Linguistics Conference (ICLC-16) from August 7 to August 11, 2023, at the University of Düsseldorf in Germany.

The event was organized by the International Cognitive Linguistics Society and hosted by the German Cognitive Linguistics Association. With the overarching theme of "Modeling Language and Cognition," the conference attracted more than 500 experts and scholars from diverse regions worldwide.

During the conference, a wide array of perspectives and topics within the realm of language and cognition research were presented. These encompassed areas such as construction grammar, frame semantics, lexical semantics, spatial event cognition, child language acquisition, gestures and sign language, as well as machine learning and natural language processing.

Professor Wang Renqiang and doctoral candidate Yu Jiangling (online) delivered an oral presentation titled "Semantic Analysis of Emotion-Label Synonyms: A Corpus-Based Account of Sympathy, Compassion, and Empathy." Professor Wu Shuqiong gave an oral presentation titled "The time orientation of qian 'front' and hou 'back' in Chinese: A Corpus-based Behavioral Profile Analysis." Dr. Deng Yu presented a talk on "Source-Goal Asymmetry in Event Segmentation: A Comparison of English, Korean, and Mandarin."

This conference serves as a valuable opportunity to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between SISU and other universities.
