Double-Ninth Festival Celebration Held in SISU

The Division of Retirees Affairs, SISU, organized an event to celebrate the Double Ninth Festival for retired personnel of SISU on the east campus on Sept. 29, 2022. Zheng Bailing, vice president of SISU, attended the event.

Zheng addressed the participants. In her address to the retired teachers and staff, Zheng expressed her respect for them and her appreciation for the contributions the retirees had made to SISU in the past. She said that SISU is committed to doing its outmost to ensure all the retirees a happy and colorful life.

The Double Ninth Festival falls on the 9th day of the 9th lunar month in the Chinese calendar. It is also called Chongyang Festival. Traditionally nine is also believed to imply longevity as it is the largest single-digit number. Autumn is the golden season for harvest, which gives additional significance to the Double Ninth Festival.

In 1989, the Chinese government set it as a day for showing respect to the elderly. Autumn outings, mountain climbing, sports for the elderly, or some fun games are organized to pay respect for the elderly.
