2022 Southwest Collegiate Model United Nations Conference Held in SISU

The 3rd Southwest Collegiate Model United Nations Conference has successfully concluded in SISU on June 5,2022. The three-day event is jointly organized by School of International Relations of SISU and Chongqing Library.

This years’ conference had five items on its agenda: the opening ceremony, ambassador’s salon, five committees’ sessions, the closing ceremony, and a dinner party.

Student diplomats or NGO delegates from universities and colleges in southwest China negotiated on five themes: global education challenges in the Covid-19 pandemic era, plastic pollution reduction, climate change and homelessness, flexible agricultural production system development, and international cyber terrorism.

At the closing ceremony, Professor Liu Yumei from SISU delivered an English speech. She points out that peace and development is the general trend of world development and the UN’s 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development has gained wide support. Against this background, promoting mutual understanding, trust, and cooperation among members of the international community are essential for future development of the world. Accordingly, international communication skills are essential for future generations of leaders, scholars, workers. This MUN Conference is a good platform to cultivate those skills. Participants of this conference learn through practice the knowledge and skills needed for international communication.

A dinner party was held in a teahouse in Ciqikou Ancient Town, Chongqing on June 4, 2022.

The event provides a social setting for the student diplomats and NGO delegates to build their social and communication skills.
