SISU Successfully Holds 1st Yuxin’ou VR Interpreting Contest

On April 28, SISU successfully held the 1st Chongqing Yuxin'ou VR Interpreting Contest, which was centered around the theme of "Smart Chongqing, Technology Empowerment".

The contest comprised three parts: gist interpretation, liaison interpretation, and simultaneous interpretation. Leveraging digital resources and virtual reality technology, the competition provided participants with a highly realistic and interactive experience by simulating scenes of business and conferences along the Yuxinou Route, a region of economic importance for the Belt and Road countries.

At the final competition hosted at SISU, 15 participants from seven universities competed after a series of preliminary rounds. Participants donned VR headsets and engaged in virtual interpretation of on-site scenes, fully immersing themselves in the interpretation process.

SISU student volunteers from the College of Translation and Interpreting provided technical assistance to the participants throughout the competition tasks.

Wang Yuqing and Tang Dexin from Chongqing University won first place in the graduate and undergraduate groups, respectively. In addition, Niu Kexin, a graduate student from SISU, won second prize in the graduate group, while Cheng Yiguo and Wang Yiduo took the third prize in the undergraduate group.

Furthermore, Professor Zhu Chaowei, Vice President of Sichuan International Studies University, highlighted that VR interpretation training systems serve as a new platform for course design, helping promote practical teaching and deepen the integration of industry and academia.
