SISU Student Interpret in Earthquake Hit Site in Turkey

After the seven-day rescue work in Adiyaman--the most severe region striken by the quake--completed on Feb 19, Wang Wenqi, a SISU student majoring in Turkish went back to Istanbul University, where he is an exchange student.

For the past seven days, he had been the mouth and ear of the members of the Blue Sky Rescue team from China.

As the interpreter of the Chinese rescue team, Wang Wenqi assisted the team to communicate with local residents, police officers, military troops and other rescue members.

WangWenqi is a junior student from SISU. In September 2022, he came to the Language Center of Istanbul University, which has a partner program with SISU, to study Turkish. Four days before the Turkish earthquake, he had just passed theTurkish C1 test and was on a two week vacation.

"Istanbulis far from the epicenter, so it was not greatly affected. After the earthquake, everyone around me wanted to do something for the residents living in the disaster-hit area, and so am I.” Wang told a SISU news reporter.
