Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) hosted a symposium on October 31 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its Japanese language program. More than 100 scholars from 50 universities and research institutions in China and Japan took part in the event.

Among the attendees are representatives from the Japanese Subcommittee of the Foreign Languages and Literature Teaching Steering Committee of the Ministry of Education, the Japanese and International Business Teaching and Research Committee of the China Association of International Trade, and renowned universities.

SISU President Dong Hongchuan delivered remarks, reaffirming the university’s commitment to advance language and cultural studies through interdisciplinary and global education.

Participants shared insights on the discipline’s development pathways, talent cultivation models, and innovative directions for academic collaboration. Centered on the theme “Southwest China and Japan,” the symposium covered topics such as historical and cultural interaction, literary exchange from classical to modern times, collaboration in language and education, and new approaches to translation and cross-cultural communication. Participants also revisited the deep cultural ties between the two regions and reflected on how these enduring connections continue to inspire new forms of exchange and cooperation today.
