Turkish Consul General in Chengdu Visits SISU

On the afternoon of May 26th, Consul General of Turkey in Chengdu, Mr. M. Mert Tokman, his wife Mrs. Ozlem Tokman, and Consul Assistant Li Ruiqi visited Sichuan International Studies University. They were greeted by the university president, Dong Hongchuan, along with representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange and the School of Oriental Languages and Cultures.

Dong Hongchuan provided a brief introduction to the school's history, academic programs, and international engagement. He highlighted Turkey's role as a pivotal link between Europe and Asia, serving as a vital center for economic and cultural exchange. Dong expressed the university's keen interest in further enhancing collaborative ties and fostering educational and cultural partnerships with Turkish institutions.

After the meeting, M. Mert Tokman and his delegation visited the College of Oriental Languages and Cultures (Chongqing College of Muti-Languges) and had an exchange with faculty and students of the Turkish language major.

SISU launched the Turkish language major in 2019. Through a collaborative program with Istanbul University in Turkey, the university has sent nine students to study there. During the 2023 earthquake in Turkey, one of the SISU students volunteered as a translator, providing valuable assistance in rescue operations. This showcases the practical skills and global perspective fostered by the Turkish language program.
