2025-11-24

Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) held its 2025 Alumni Association Annual Meeting in Shanghai on November 15. Organized by the Shanghai Alumni Chapter, the event carried the theme “Seventy-Five Years On: Deep Roots, Far-Reaching Branches.” SISU President Dong Hongchuan, Deputy Party Secretary and Executive Vice President of the Alumni Association Gou Chaoli, and representatives from the Chongqing Municipal Government’s Shanghai Office joined alumni and guests from across the country.

Fang Yongsheng, advisor to the Alumni Association, opened the gathering with welcome remarks. He greeted alumni and guests from across China and spoke about his decision to personally fund this year’s meeting, saying he wished to contribute to an event that strengthens alumni bonds and supports SISU’s long-term development. His remarks conveyed warm gratitude to his alma mater and a strong commitment to advancing the alumni community.

Speaking on behalf of SISU, Gou Chaoli welcomed participants and expressed sincere appreciation to the Shanghai Alumni Chapter for its thoughtful preparation. She reviewed several milestones from SISU’s 75-year history and underscored the important role alumni chapters play in connecting graduates and supporting the University. Alumni, she noted, remain one of SISU’s most valuable resources, and the University will continue building an open, supportive, and collaborative network that engages alumni worldwide.

Chapter leaders Huang Keqin (Shanghai), Fan Yingchao (Hong Kong–Macao–Taiwan), and Wang Wenjia (Sichuan) also spoke at the meeting. They recalled their student years at SISU and emphasized that the University provided not only academic training but also an international outlook and the confidence to engage with the world.

Outstanding alumni chapters were recognized for their contributions to strengthening alumni engagement and supporting SISU’s development.

During the handover of the association banner, Liao Honghai, president of the Chongqing Alumni Chapter—the host of the 2026 annual meeting—received the flag and pledged to deliver a gathering that rekindles memories, brings alumni together, and looks ahead to shared opportunities.

In his remarks, President Dong Hongchuan highlighted SISU’s recent progress in academic development, research productivity, talent training innovation, and international cooperation. As SISU marks its 75th anniversary, he said the University is steadily advancing toward becoming a distinctive, high-level applied research university in foreign studies. Dong invited alumni to stay closely engaged, offer ideas for the University’s future, and contribute their strengths to SISU’s continued development.

The alumni forum, moderated by Yue Yonghong (Russian major, Class of ’81), centered on the theme “Telling Our Stories: Past, Present, and Future.” Participants discussed ways to expand alumni networks, promote university–industry collaboration, and support younger alumni. Speakers including Fang Yongsheng, Chen Rong, and Hu Min shared insights from their professional journeys and offered constructive suggestions for the University and the alumni community.

The meeting concluded with cultural performances prepared by alumni. Musical and spoken-word pieces—many featuring SISU themes—created a warm, celebratory atmosphere, bringing the day’s events to a close on a heartfelt note.
