Sichuan International Studies University (SISU) welcomed a special guest from across the Pacific this week, as Michele Carlisle, director of the Confucius Institute at Ohio's Eastern Central Education Service Center, visited campus to discuss expanding cultural exchanges between the U.S. and China.

In a warm meeting with SISU President Dong Hongchuan, Carlisle was greeted with enthusiasm for her longstanding dedication to the Confucius Institute's mission. "We are thrilled to host Director Carlisle and celebrate her tireless efforts in fostering Sino-U.S. exchanges," Dong said. He shared an overview of SISU's growth as a hub for language and international studies, highlighting ongoing partnerships with the Confucius Institute. "SISU remains committed to supporting these vital programs and deepening cultural connections that benefit our global community."

Carlisle, reflecting on the Institute's latest initiatives, acknowledged the hurdles in promoting Chinese language education amid evolving global landscapes. "Challenges only fuel our resolve," she noted. "We're excited to keep innovating with dynamic Chinese classes and vibrant cultural events that bring communities together."

Both sides agreed to renew their cooperation agreement. Key topics included dispatching teachers, launching online courses, short-term faculty exchanges, and student summer camps—initiatives designed to spark curiosity and collaboration among young scholars.

In the afternoon, Carlisle toured Liangjiang Foreign Language School Affiliated to SISU, a partner institution, where discussions centered on diverse student and faculty exchange programs. "These interactions are the heartbeat of true understanding," Carlisle added, emphasizing hands-on opportunities for cultural immersion.

This visit highlights SISU's vital role in fostering global conversations, opening up new opportunities for the Ohio Confucius Institute and giving a real boost to U.S.-China partnerships. As President Dong put it, "Together, we're not just sharing languages—we're building lasting friendships."
