The first Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange was held in Chongqing November 6-7, 2003, attracting more than 1000 attendees from 80 countries and international organizations. As a “one-on-one” reception unit appointed by the organizing committee, SISU has undertaken the task of providing language support to the reception of the Omani and the Belarusian delegations. The performance of SISU teachers and students has impressed their guests deeply.

The Omani delegation, comprising 11 members, included HE Prof. Rahma Ibrahim Al-Mahrooqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation of Oman, and HE Ambassador Naser AlBusaidi, the Omani Ambassador to China, and the Belarussian delegation was headed by Akarol Andrei, president of Belarusian State University.

During the conference, Vice President Zhu Chaowei of SISU received the Omani delegation. Vice President Zhu Chaowei briefed the guests with SISU’s progress in Arabic language education and research, suggesting enhancing cooperation and exchange between SISU and higher education institutions in Oman. The Minister praised the language skills and professionalism of the Arabic faculty and students of SISU, and expressed her appreciation for SISU’S hospitality. She said she was impressed with SISU’s achievements in advancing Arabic studies, and also vowed to support and foster cooperation between the universities in two countries.

Prof. Akarol Andrei, president of Belarusian State University, heading the Belarusian delegation, paid a visit to SISU on November 6, and signed a Cooperation Agreement between Sichuan International Studies University and Belarusian National University, marking the beginning of the cooperation between the two universities.

SISU teachers and students also provided language services for delegations from multiple countries. In addition, dozens of SISU teachers and students also participated in volunteer services during the conference.
