A Profileof Shapingba District

Shapingba District is a centraldistrict in the city of Chongqing. To the east of the district flows theJialing River, and the West towers the Jinyun Mountain. It borders JiulongpoDistrict in the south and Beibei District in the north. Covering an area of 396square kilometers, Shapingba District consists of 26 towns. It has 1.48 millionpermanent residents and an urbanization rate of 96%.

Shapingba District is blessedwith abundant cultural attractions. It is the birthplace of Bayu (GreaterChongqing) culture, and the cradle of Hongyan revolutionary spirit. The mostprominent cultural attractions in this district are: the former residences ofrevolutionary celebrities such as General Feng Yuxiang and the poet Guo Moruo,Zazidong and Baigongguan prisons of the KMT era -- key components of theHongyan Revolutionary Museum, and about 80 anti-Japanese aggression war sites.It is also the place where the phenomenal flowering of schools and universitiesduring the early half of the 20^th century was poetically referred toas “Shaping Beacons of Learning”. The district has been a major writer of thehistory and culture of Chongqing. In the past few years, more cultural touristattractions have sprung up in the district: Wenlvcheng (Town of CulturalTourism), Ciqikou Houjie (Ciqikou Backstreet), Jinsha Tianjie (Jinsha ParadiseShopping Mall).

Shapingba District excels inscientific research and education. As a well-known education highland in thecountry, the district is a major site of the Western (Chongqing) Science City.There are 16 colleges and universities in the district, including the top onessuch as Chongqing University, the Army Medical University. There are 82well-known primary and secondary schools, of which, the Chongqing No. 1 MiddleSchool, Nankai Secondary School, and Shuren Primary School are nationallyrenowned. There are 321 municipal level scientific research platforms, 129high-tech enterprises, 1799 technology-based enterprises, 100,000 scientificand technological workers, 30,000 master or doctoral degree holders, 34academicians from either the " Chinese Academy of Sciences " or“Chinese Academy of Engineering”. The District also boasts the QingfengHigh-tech Industry Park, the Huangjinwan●IntelligenceValley, Guanggu ●Intelligence Innovation Park, Chongqing University IndustrialPark of Creative Design and other innovation platforms. The number of patentsowned by 10,000 people ranks first in the whole Municipality.

The District enjoys an open andwell-developed transportation network. There are two high-speed rail hubs,Chongqing West Railway Station and Chengdu-Chongqing High-speed RailwayShapingba Station in the district. The construction of the Chengdu-ChongqingHigh-speed Railway Science City Station is already on the agenda. The Districtis home to Chongqing Free Trade Pilot Zone, Xiyong Comprehensive Bonded Zone,Chongqing Railway Port, Chongqing High-tech Zone and other national developmentand opening platforms. In addition, Chongqing International Logistics Hub, thestarting point of the Yu'Xin'Ou Railway (Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe Railway)setting up the land-sea corridor from China to the west of Europe, is anational inland logistics hub approved by the state. The District now boastslogistics railways going "east, west, north and south" of thecountry. In 2021, the import and export volume of Shapingba District accountedfor more than 40% of the total of the whole Municipality.

The District isstrong in industrial production. The District has five cornerstone industries:electronic information, equipment manufacturing, trade and commerce, modernlogistics, and cultural tourism. There are 214 industrial enterprises of scale.It is an important electronic information industry base in the world. It is nowhome to China Electronics Technology, China Resources Microelectronics, andJixin Technology and many other high-tech enterprises as well as someinternationally renowned logistics companies such as Mapletree Singapore,Prologis,Hellmann Worldwide Logistics and Sinotrans. An industrycluster involving the production of the whole chain
of digital products isnow in place. One out of every four laptops in the world is manufactured in Shapingba
District.
