If you want to experience the real Chongqing, you cannot miss the Didao Yihao (Tunnel Number 1) air-raid shelter!

In Chongqing, air-raid shelters hold a distinctive role. During the wartime resistance against Japanese invasion, these shelters were excavated to provide protection for the city's residents from air raids. In peacetime, these air-raid shelters have taken on various roles, reimagining their purpose to serve the development of the economy, society, and the daily lives of the people.

In 2018, Chongqing initiated the "Mountain City" air-raid shelter renovation project. This comprehensive endeavor involved exploring the historical significance of Chongqing's various air-raid shelters. Customized transformations and upgrades were carried out, considering the unique characteristics of each shelter.

Today, these renovated air-raid shelters have taken on a diverse array of functions, including housing hotpot restaurants, wine cellars, gas stations, parking facilities, museums, libraries, car washes, snack shops, and more.

The annual average number of tourists visiting these refurbished shelters in our city has exceeded one million, providing employment opportunities for over 100,000 people while significantly contributing to the local economy.
