Confucius Institute in LUNN Russia Hosts Spring Festival Celebrations

From February 9th to 17th, 2024, the Confucius Institute at the Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod hosted a series of Chinese New Year celebrations, including the 2024 New Year's Concert, a Spring Festival garden party in Nizhny Novgorod's "Swiss" Park, a celebration at the Volga River Passenger Center, as well as festivities at the "House of National Unity" in Nizhny Novgorod region, the main campus of the Linguistics University, and several local schools.

These celebrations attracted thousands of attendees and received extensive media coverage, including interviews with Nizhny Novgorod's most influential "Independence" TV station, other local television channels, and online platforms, with many media outlets providing full coverage of the events.



The celebrations brought the locals with traditional cultural experiences such as Chinese calligraphy, painting, tea ceremony performance, Chinese knot weaving, and lantern making, in addition to exhibitions of Chinese traditional costumes, VR show of Chinese culture, and exhibition of traditional Chinese art works.



On February 9th, at the New Year's concert, Zhanna Nikonova, the President of the Linguistics University of Nizhny Novgorod, delivered a New Year's speech. She extended New Year greetings to the Chinese teachers at the Confucius Institute and wished all guests joy, peace, and prosperity in the Year of the Dragon. Elena Mishina, the Director of Tourism Development and External Relations of Nizhny Novgorod, stated during the celebration at the tourist center that the residents of Nizhny Novgorod are deeply interested in Chinese culture, making the celebration of the Chinese New Year a traditional event in the city. Olga Guseva, the Minister of International and Interregional Relations of the Nizhny Novgorod region, said in an interview at the "House of National Unity" event: "May the Spring Festival become a beautiful moment of joyful communication, inspiring inspiration and creativity."
