The 2023 Asian Youth Climbing Championship Kicks Off in Chongqing

The 2023 Asian Youth Climbing Championship, organized by the International Federation of Sport Climbing Asian Council, commenced with great enthusiasm on October 19th at the Huayan Bihuwang (gecko king) National Climbing Demonstration Park in Jiulongpo District, Chongqing. This prestigious championship, which brings together the best young climbers aged 14 to 19 from across Asia, serves as a significant platform for their growth and development in the sport.

The event drew participation from over a hundred athletes representing 12 countries and regions, including Cambodia, India, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and China. With male and female categories and competitors divided into U16 (14-15 years old), U18 (16-17 years old), and U20 (18-19 years old) groups, the championship featured a range of climbing disciplines, including difficulty climbing, speed climbing, and bouldering.

Li Zhixin, Chairman of the International Federation of Sport Climbing Asian Council and President of the Chinese Mountaineering Association, highlighted that this marks the third occasion Chongqing has hosted the Asian Youth Climbing Championship.
