The annual UCWDC Country Dance World Championships began on Jan. 1, 2017 in America. On behalf of China, SISU Line Dance Team competed in the championships and returned with three titles, three silver , one fourth place and one fifth in individual awards and amazingly the first in the team event.
The award-winners are: Li Shuqi (1st, Newcomer Open), Xiao Yueyue (1st, Novice Crystal), Han Shuna (1st, Newcomer Crystal), Hu Xiaoyang (2nd, Newcomer Crystal), Chen Lin (2nd, Novice Open ), Ma Kangjin (2nd, Newcomer Open), Huang Zishan (4th, Newcomer Open) and Cui Mengyao (5th, Newcomer Open)
The team dance, named “Wukong”, was inspired by the legendary figure Sun Wukong, who was granted "Victorious Fighting Buddha" from a rebellious monkey king after 81 tribulations in the classic Journey to the West. He is the incarnation of wit and courage in the Chinese folk culture. The spirit of the dance was also enriched by traditional Chinese cultural elements like martial art and face-changing in Sichuan Opera. Such a combination has elevated the artistry of the dance and promoted the fine traditional culture.
This year’s anniversary event has attracted dancers from all over America, Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Norway, Switzerland, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Latvia and beyond. It was both an exchange of art and an exchange of friendship. The breathtaking performance staged by SISU dancers was greeted with wild cheers from their competitors.
