International Students' Department

Established in 1983, the International Students' Department of Sichuan International Studies University is the only department of the university responsible for enrollment, teaching and management of international students. Over the past 20 years, the department has trained more than 800 students from more than 20 countries and regions, including the United States, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Canada, Peru, Britain, France, Germany, Russia, Italy, Switzerland, Sweden, Denmark, Turkey, Belgium, Norway, Australia, New Zealand and Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Equipped with modern teaching facilities, the department has a strong teaching faculty. Among the 17 teachers, 6 are professors or associate professors, the rest are lecturers. The teachers, who hold the official certificate for teaching Chinese to foreigners, are also proficient in English, French, German, Japanese, Russian, Spanish and Korean, and most of them have had the experience of teaching Chinese at foreign universities under the program administered by the Ministry of Education of China. Their dedication and professionalism are testified by the achievements of its international students. Many of the students have passed both Grade Six and Grade Eight HSK tests after one or two years' training. Some have come back to work in China as department administrators.
At present, the department offers both a 2/3-year program and a four-year undergraduate program leading to Bachelor's degree in Chinese. In addition, it offers both short-term and long-term training programs to international students.
In addition, the department offers a variety of extracurricular programs, including courses on Chinese calligraphy, Chinese painting, martial arts, taiji, and other subjects related to Chinese culture and society. It also arranges for students to visit places around the city and the region.
