Department of Japanese

The Department of Japanese, one of the first in China to offer bachelor degrees in Japanese, offers both MA and BA programmes. Since it was established in 1973, about 30 graduate students and 450 four-year programme students have graduated from the department. It has 27 teachers, including 2 professors and 8 associate professors. Most of the teachers have taught or studied in Japan in accordance with its exchange programmes with Japanese universities and colleges. The department boasts a library of 50000 volumes of books and a substantial collection of audio-visual teaching materials.
The department aims to equip its students with the knowledge needed in the departments of foreign affairs, trade and finance, tourism, joint ventures, business organizations and institutions of higher learning. It offers more than 20 courses in Japanese, including Intensive Reading, Extensive Reading, Audio-visual Course, Oral Course, Translation, Listening, Foreign Newspaper Reading, Survey of Japan, Selected Readings of Japanese Literature, Business Japanese and Tourism.
