The Department of French, one of the first in China to offer bachelor degrees in French, offers both MA and BA degrees. Since its establishment in 1960, about 1000 students have graduated from the department. On the teaching staff are 4 professors and 9 associate professors. It employs teachers and specialists from France or other French speaking countries every year.
With emphasis laid on both its fundamental and its advanced courses, the department aims to equip the students with knowledge needed in international economic cooperation, foreign trade, tourism, management and science and technology. In addition, it encourages its students to study for a second degree either in law or another discipline.
The department boasts a library of over 5000 volumes of books in the original and a substantial collection of audio-visual teaching aids.
